Hyderabad: 40,000 houses to be ready by August

However, the official said that the civic body had set a target to complete the houses by December, which might also be further delayed.

Hyderabad: Against the target of one lakh double bedroom houses in the city, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has managed to complete the construction of 612 2BHK houses which includes both in-situ (slums) and vacant lands identified for the project. Citing the delay in sanction of funds from the government, the civic body has now extended the deadline to December.

An official claimed that as many as 40,000 houses were nearing completion and would be delivered by August and the remaining 2BHK houses which were in various stages of completion would be completed by year-end.

A senior GHMC official, on condition of anonymity, said that the progress of works was hindered with the surge in the price of steel and the delay in release of funds from the government. The official said that the construction of houses might gather pace after Lok Sabha polls. However, the official said that the civic body had set a target to complete the houses by December, which might also be further delayed.
