Chennai Central station to be re-named after MGR: PM Modi

PM Modi said the democratically elected MGR government had been dismissed by the imposers of Emergency because of political differences.

Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday made sure his NDA poll rally at suburban Vandalur had enough carrots to impress the voter in Tamil Nadu — renaming of Chennai Central Railway station after MGR (a longtime demand of the ruling AIADMK) and promising the use of Tamil as one of the languages for in-flight announcements in flights to and from Tamil Nadu, plus more. And he also unveiled, through video-conferencing, a MGR statue at a women's college run some 30 km away.

PM Modi said the “democratically elected” MGR government had been dismissed by the imposers of Emergency because of political differences. “If there’s one party that has abused Art 356 again and again, it’s Congress. If the Dynasty did not like a leader, that State Government was dismissed. Congress imposed Art 356 many times, out of which 50 governments were dismissed by Indiraji.

“Even the DMK had been the victim of Congress hatred for regional aspirations. But for the DMK, opportunism has prevailed over values”, PM Modi said.
