Bengaluru: Six held for killing 73-year-old woman

During the investigation the police found that a person, identified as Shivu, from Chamarajanagar district, was using her phone.

Bengaluru: Madiwala police have arrested six people, including two women, for abducting and killing a 73-year-old woman and stealing her ornaments.

The accused have been identified as Tipesh, 30, a resident of Naganathapura, Prasanna, 34, a resident of Garvebavipalya, Madhusudan, 30, a resident of Adugodi, Mahesh, 30, a resident of JP Nagar, Rakshita, 19, wife of Tipesh and Baghya, 32, a resident of Hosakerehalli.

According to the police, a missing complaint was registered in Madiwala police station on February 28 stating that Hemavathi, a resident of P.C. Road in Madiwala, had gone to a nearby temple on February 24 morning, but failed to return.

During the investigation the police found that a person, identified as Shivu, from Chamarajanagar district, was using her phone.

Shivu had purchased the mobile phone from Thipesh. The police traced Tipesh and based on information shared by him, the police arrested the other five accused.

Investigations revealed that the accused had planned to steal Hemavathi's gold ornaments and Thipesh approached her under on the pretext of renting her apartment and later befriend her.

On February 24, he offered to drop Hemavathi at the temple in his car and made her drink a juice laced with sleeping pills.

He took her to Kanakapura Road where he strangulated her to death and took gold ornaments and cash, before throwing the body into a lake.

They later sold her ornaments and shared the money. Based on the information shared by them the police recovered Hemavathi's body from the lake in Turuvekere police station limits.

The police have registered a case and the accused were remanded to judicial custody.
