Hyderabad: Exam scare leads to engineering student taking own life
Hyderabad: Depressed of backlogs in academics, an engineering student had committed suicide at Meerpet in the wee hours of Tuesday. Police said Kandula Vikram(21) hailing from Mancherial district had jumped from the third floor of a building where he had come to meet his friend. Minutes before taking this extreme step, Vikram had texted to a friend saying that he was about to end his life and also told that he had lied to his parents about his Gold chain, which he had actually mortgaged for expenses.
“Inquiries revealed that he had 21 backlogs in the previous years, due to which he was depressed. We suspect due to that, he had taken this extrem step. However the case will be probed in all angles.” Inspector A Manmohan said.
Vikram is studying engineering at TKR engineering college and is residing in a rented room at RN reddy nagar along with his classmates. On Monday night, he along with six other friends had gathered in another friend’s room at RN reddy nagar for a birthday celebration. All the boys partied over drinks till late night.
While others in the group, stayed back in the room, Vikram who was in a highly inebriated condition borrowed his friend Madhukar’s bike and drove to Raghava nagar to meet a friend Ajay at around 3am.
He went to the terrace on the third floor, where Ajay was residing and called him. Despite repeated knocks, Ajay was in deep sleep did not respond.
Minutes later, Vikram vomited on the terrace and at 3.20am, he sent a text message to his room mate Prashanth saying that he was going to die. In the message, Vikram said that he had lied to his parents of losing his gold chain, but had actually mortgaged it for expenses. He also told that he had borrowed Rs 7000 from a friend and asked Prashanth to inform his father about the Gold chain and the loan amount.
After sending the sms, he had jumped from the terrace and died on the spot. Tenants in the second floor who are vegetable vendors noticed the body at around 4am and alerted Police.
Based on his father Shankaraiah’s complaint, a case of suspicious death was registered and the body was handed over to the family after an autopsy.
