Chennai: MTC driver suffers heart attack while driving, manages to halt safely
Chennai: At least 40 passengers in an MTC bus had a close shave as the driver of the bus suffered a cardiac arrest near Red Hills on Tuesday.
H thereby saving the passengers before he was rushed to a hospital, where he died.
The deceased driver, Sundararaj, was attached to Avadi depot of the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC).
He was plying the bus (route No. 6R) from Avadi to Red hills when he suffered the cardiac arrest, police said.
The bus was approaching Tiruvallur high road, when the driver informed the conductor that he was feeling unwell and continued to drive the vehicle.
However, within a few minutes, Sundararaj suffered a mild attack following which he managed to slow down the vehicle and park it by the side safely before he swooned onto the steering wheel.
It took a while for the passengers to comprehend what had happened and soon police and ambulance services were informed.
He was rushed to the Government Stanley Hospital where he was declared brought dead. Police said that MTC would be co-ordinating with the family members regarding compensation.
