Why can't old notes be deposited: Supreme Court
The SC bench issued notice after hearing the ordinance which makes retaining old notes beyond a limit, a punishable offence.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to the Centre and the Reserve Bank of India on a batch of petitions seeking a direction that old notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 should be accepted in RBI branches upto March 31 as per the promise made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his speech on demonetisation made on November 8, 2016.
