Telangana government funding for temples capped at Rs 50 lakh

It was proposed to spend Rs 30 crore on construction of new temples and Rs 15 crore for low income temples to conduct daily rituals.

Hyderabad: The Telangana state government will fix a ceiling of Rs 50 lakh on sanctioning funds from the Common Good Fund for construction of new temples.

The endowments department has sought Rs 64 crore in the ensuing Budget for the CGF, against Rs 50 crore last year.

It was proposed to spend Rs 30 crore on construction of new temples and Rs 15 crore for low income temples to conduct daily rituals.

At a meeting with officials chaired by endowments minister A. Indrakaran Reddy. it was decided to construct 20 temples in weaker sections colonies by spending Rs 10 lakh each. The departmental committee approved the sanctioning of Rs 2 crore for the purpose.

Another Rs 30 lakh was sanctioned to take up renovation works in existing temples.
