Odisha: Pregnant women carried on cots

Odisha ambulances fail to arrive in time.

RAYAGADA (ODISHA): Two pregnant tribal women, in two separate incidents, undergoing labour pain were carried on a cot to the hospital but before they could reach they delivered two baby boys midway in Lakhmipur area of Koraput district, reports said on Monday.

The family members said they have to carry the women on a cot after the the 102 ambulance service failed to come on time.

Sources said, Parama Mandinga of Dakana village on Sunday morning informed the Asha workers about his wife Rupai’s labour pain. After waiting for the 102 ambulance, he had to carry his wife on a cot to the hospital at around 11 am. On the way the family members stopped an autorickshaw in which the patient was carried to the hospital, but she delivered a baby boy midway.

Similarly, at Sapamba village, another pregnant woman Limbai Wadeka was carried on a charpoy by her husband and some villagers to the hospital after 102 ambulance failed to reach the home in time. Later an ambulance from Narayanpatna picked them up but she delivered a baby boy midway.
