MK Stalin asks CM to send fisheries minister to Delhi to take steps

The island government haS not released 85 fishermen and 128 boats, leading to the suffering of fishermen's families, Stalin said.

Chennai: Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin on Monday urged Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palanisami to take steps for the release of Tamil Nadu fishermen arrested by the Sri Lankan navy by sending the fisheries minister to Delhi to meet the concerned Union ministers.

He also flayed the attitude of the Centre refusing to speak against the actions of Lanka which is ignoring the decision taken at the meeting of fishermen belonging to the two countries on November 5 last year not to resort to violence against Tamil Nadu fishermen.

The island government haS not released 85 fishermen and 128 boats, leading to the suffering of fishermen's families, Stalin said.

The AIADMK government in the state and the BJP government at the Centre are silently watching the sufferings of fishermen, he said. Palanisami should not stop with writing a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and initiate measures for the release of seized boats also without delay, he said.

Condemning the arrest of Tamil Nadu fishermen and seizure of fishermen's boats, he said the island government is continuing the arrest of fishermen without concern for their economic conditions and liveli-hood.

The Centre should not remain silent and exert pressure through diplomatic channels for the release of fishermen and their boats, Stalin added.
