AP AgriGold victims on hunger strike

Mr Nageswar Rao said that the government's apathy has forced them to sit on hunger strike.

Vijayawada: The AgriGold Customers and Agents Welfare Association intensified its agitation by sitting on mass hunger strike at Vijayawada on Monday.

Scores of depositors and agents from across the state have gathered at Dharna Chowk near Alankar Theatre and observed a hunger strike. Around 50 people sat in the hunger strike along with association’s honorary president Muppalla Nageswar Rao.

Speaking at the venue, Mr Nageswar Rao said that the government’s apathy has forced them to sit on hunger strike. Though more than 100 people have committed suicide in the last two years after the scam broke out, the government was still not inclined to resolve the issue at the earliest, he bemoaned. He demanded that the government speed up the auction process and to pay Rs 10 lakh as compensation to the families of the customers who committed suicide. Mr Nageswar Rao alleged that the government was trying to save the perpetrators of the fraud by not arresting chairman Avva Venkata Rama Rao and his son who were living in Dubai.
