Thiruvananthapuram: Fans assns to be roped in for Killiyar River renovation

Thiruvananthapuram: Mobilising volunteers for the mass cleaning drive for rejuvenating Killiyar River is going to be a herculean task for the City Corporation. The civic authorities are planning to rope in all fans association in the state capital. On Wednesday, a meeting was held with the representatives of various fans association of prominent actors including Mohanlal, Mammootty and Dulquer Salman.

The civic body is planning to mobilize around 25,000 volunteers for the work. An official said that as many as 30 representatives from various organizations took part in the meeting held on Wednesday. "One more meeting will be held with various fans association in the state capital. We are expecting over 1000 volunteers from the part of various fans association," said the official.

The cleaning up of the Killiyar River will be held on February 26. "Our target is 25000 volunteers but we expect a minimum of over 15000 volunteers," said the official. More meetings have been scheduled with student organizations and educational institutions, Kudumbashree workers, the apex body of residents association in the coming days.

"The clean up drive will happen as scheduled. We will tightly following up with these organisations to ensure adequate representation from each sectors, " said the official.
