Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday questioned the state government’s inaction in appointing the Lokayukta and the Upa Lokayukta from October 2017, as there were around 5,550 petitions pending adjudication.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan and Justice A. Rajasheker Reddy while dealing with a plea filed by Forum for Good Governance secretary M. Padmanabha Reddy, asked what steps the government had taken to appoint the two authorities.
The bench asked why the posts had not been filled up so far, and sought the cut-off date from the government to make the appointments.
Advocate-General B.S. Prasad said consultations were going to fill up the posts and asked for two weeks from the court to get instructions.
Ms Rachana Reddy, counsel for the petitioner, said none of the petitions and complaints filed against corrupt officials and public representatives were being adjudicated as there was no Lokayukta.
Mr Reddy stated that the staff at the Lokayukta had no work because the appointments were not made, and said more than Rs 12 crore was being spent on them for salaries annually.
