History department at 100 turns focus on Telangana
Hyderabad: Osmania University is celebrating the centenary of its History department by hosting the 39th South Indian History Congress.
The History department is giving greater importance to the history of Telangana. Says Professor Arjun Rao, head of the department, “Research scholars are now concentrating on the historical aspects of Telangana in the medieval and modern periods. The new findings of the new Buddhist sites need to be studied. The new folklore and stories of Telangana that are being told need to be researched and authenticated. Hence the thrust is on looking back at these aspects and creating a data base.”
Recently, after a long time, the History department had a placement in a corporate company for documentation of historical evidence.
This has boosted the morale of the department as there is an opportunity for jobs in the corporate sector apart from academia and tourism where most history graduates find employment.
