Athikadavu project launch by month-end, says Edappadi K Palaniswami
Coimbatore: The foundation stone for the Athikadavu - Avinashi project will be laid by the end of this month said Tamil Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami here, after inaugurating farmers’ leader C. Narayana Samy Naidu memorial building (mani mandapam) near Vaiyampalayam, on the outskirts of the city, on Wednesday. This will be built at a cost of Rs 1.5 crores, he said.
Later, addressing the media, the Chief Minister said that tenders have being received and are being verified by the government.
So far, in order to encourage sound agriculture practices and increase farm productivity, '6,648.35 crore in agricultural loans have been given to 10,12,796 farmers through cooperative loan societies. Coconut farmers were granted permission to take Neerabanam which has resulted in doubling the income of farmers in and around Pollachi and Coimbatore.
Around two lakh small and micro-level farmers are being benefited under the integrated farming scheme for which government has allotted Rs 100 crore.
Within the last seven years, food grain production has crossed 100 metric tons, five times in Tamil Nadu, due to the second green revolution achieved by continuous farmers’ welfare projects that were introduced by the AIADMK government. These bagged many Central government awards including the Krish Karman, added the CM.
The Prime Minister’s crop insurance scheme is being implemented effectively in Tamil Nadu across all districts. During 2016-17, Tamil Nadu received more crop compensation under the scheme than any other state, he added.
During the same year, Rs 3,526.78 crore was settled to farmers as crop damage compensation. Around 16 lakh farmers have registered for crop compensation insurance scheme during 2018-19 which is more than 2,41,000 farmers compared to last year, added the Chief Minister.
