AP government presented Kapu sub-quota bill in Assembly
Vijayawada: The AP government has introduced a Bill to give Kapu sub-quota in the Economically Weaker Sections reservations announced by the Centre for open category groups, in the Assembly on Wednesday.
The House will take up the discussion on the Kapu sub-quota bill on Thursday. BC welfare minister K. Atchennaidu introduced the Bill along with another legislation to provide 5 per cent quota to EWS in open category communities.
The state Cabinet had met on January 31 and approved the legislation to carve out 5 per cent sub-quota to Kapus from the 10 per cent reservation quota announced by the Centre to the economically backward open category castes. This came after the Centre did not respond to the Bill to include Kapus in the BCs list that was earlier sent by the state government. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had on many occasions defended his decision to provide the sub-quota. He had pointed that more than half the people in the upper caste category were Kapus.
