Tiruchy collector resolves jallikattu date row in Lalgudi
Tiruchy: Tension prevailed for a while at Tiruchy collectorate on Monday, when a section of members of the Tamil Nadu Veera Vilayattu Peravai led by its district secretary, M. Kaathaan, brought two bulls for a symbolic protest against the district administration, which had denied permission to them to hold a ‘jallikattu’ on February 11, as part of the local Mariamman temple festival at Lalgudi near here.
The police prevented them from entering into the collectorate with the bulls and following this there was a heated argument between the police and Mr. Kaathaan.
However, the issue was settled when a delegation led by Mr. Kaathaan met the Tiruchy district collector, Mr. K. Rajamani and explained their case. The collector advised them to hold the event on February 18 instead of February 11. The agitators also accepted the district collector’s suggestion and dispersed peacefully, sources told DC.
