Row over contaminated glucose at Mettupalayam GH

The poor girl was admitted to Mettupalayam GH and is being treated in the women's ward.

Coimbatore: Tension prevailed at the Mettupalayam Government Hospital (GH) near here on Tuesday after the father of a 13-year-old girl quarreled with hospital staff, alleging that contaminated glucose was being injected into his sick daugh-
ter.

Police said that Visutha, 13, studying class VIII in Karamadai town panchayat school and daughter of Kosy, 40, a construction laborer residing at Karamadai Kuntha Colony, fell ill a few days ago.

The poor girl was admitted to Mettupalayam GH and is being treated in the women's ward.

On Tuesday morning Visutha was given a drip. Her father Kosy noticed tiny particles floating inside the drip bottle. Suspecting it to be a contaminated one, he reported the matter to the nurse on duty. However, the nurse refused to change the bottle, leading to a wordy quarrel between them.

People and patients gathered in front of the ward. On receiving information Mettupalayam police rushed to the spot.

Hospital chief medical officer (in charge) Dr Illanchezhiyan promised to send the drips bottle to the lab for testing.

Police said that the CMO said that the girl's condition is stable and based on the lab report, further action would be taken.
