Metroman E Sreedharan enters anti-flood team

Visits areas prone to water logging.

KOCHI: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation principal advisor E. Sreedharan has promised Kochi corporation, struggling to find a permanent solution to the perennial issue of water logging in city areas, to provide technical support to prepare a comprehensive drainage master plan. Mr Sreedharan conducted a joint inspection of the areas from Durbar Hall ground to High Court junction on Tuesday with mayor Soumini Jain and standing committee chairmen and councilors.

The team visited the Park Avenue Road, Gandhi statue near DH Ground, corporation office premises, government guesthouse area and the High Court junction. The civic administration has urged the Metro man to prepare a technical report exclusively for the central city areas. “Engineering wing in the corporation has provided a water logging chart of the city with necessary details based on which Mr Sreedharan will prepare a technical report,” said the mayor.

“Though the civic body has been spending huge amount every year to resolve flooding in the city, the issue remains unresolved. I have discussed the matter with Mr Sreedharan who offered to provide technical support to resolve the issue. Since different government agencies share the ownership of arterial roads, water logging can be addressed only if all of departments work together,” she added. According to Mr Sreedharan, it is possible to make a technical report for drainage management city. But funding sources have to be identified for implementing the project. “A study report will soon be submitted to the corporation," he said.
