Karnataka: Eagle eye over conduct of SSLC, PUC examinations

No grace marks that total over 5% for two subjects will be awarded.

BENGALURU: In a bid to ensure security and smooth functioning of the upcoming SSLC and II PUC exams in the state, the department of education will implement the Karnataka Secure Exam Action System, bringing the entire process right from setting question papers to the answer papers being evaluated under supervision.

Question paper setting will be watched by CCTVs and each packet will carry Unique Quick Response (QR) codes and will be stored in rooms with biometric locks, says the department.

“Strong rooms at district treasuries where the QP is stored will be equipped with CCTVs and footages will be monitored 24/7. QPs can be taken for distribution from the virtual fence only after the thumb impression of three officers (including respective ADMs) is recognised,” said Shalini Rajneesh, Principal Secretary, Dept of Primary and Secondary Education.

With the process, including student registration, issue of hall tickets, and application for revaluation going online, the department is confident of holding exams without discrepancies. Also, no grace marks that total over 5% for two subjects will be awarded.

School principals and educationists have raised concerns over data entry errors. “The final call to check personal details of each student should be left to the headmaster/principal concerned and an option for corrections, given. It is better that the board doesn’t interfere in this process as it leads to hardships to parents outside Bengaluru too,” said D. Shashikumar, general secretary, Karnataka Associated Managements of Primary and Secondary Schools.
