Farmers in Kovai press for Athikadavu-Avinashi scheme

They raised slogans demanding a G.O. for the Athikadavu-Avinashi project and connecting it with the Kalingarayan project.

Coimbatore: Farmers staged an agitation on Tuesday, demanding the implementation of a set of demands including the immediate execution of the Athikadavu-Avinashi project to face the summer water crisis.

As many as 250 farmers belonging to Tamil Nadu non-political farmer's association, gathered in front of the south taluk office on Tuesday, led by association state president Rangasamy.

They raised slogans demanding a G.O. for the Athikadavu-Avinashi project and connecting it with the Kalingarayan project.

They also demanded waiving all the bank and cooperatives loans of farmers, protection from man-animal conflicts, timely settlement of compensation for crops ravaged by animals like wild boar and elephants, cleaning water bodies and removal of encroachments, hike the procurement price for milk and rein in hike in the prices of petrol and diesel.
