CMS College students pledge to donate eyes

Nearly 200 NSS volunteers of the college took the pledge to become Vision Ambassadors spreading the mission of eye donation.

Kottayam: Nearly 1,000 students of CMS College including 200 NSS volunteers and a few faculty members and non-teaching staff have pledged to donate their eyes. The initiative was organised by the NSS unit of CMS College in association with the Darsana Cultural Centre, Kottayam, and Project Vision, Bangalore in the context of the bicentenary celebrations of the College.

The event was marked by the presence of Ms Fathima Anshi, a blind student of class 7 from Malappuram, who won the hearts of many students by her story and also the songs she sung on the occasion. In her address, Ms Fathima shared her ambition of becoming an Indian Foreign Service Officer. Nearly 200 NSS volunteers of the college took the pledge to become Vision Ambassadors spreading the mission of eye donation.

NSS Programme Officer Ashok Alex Luke welcomed the gathering, Principal Dr Roy Sam Daniel presided over the session, Fr George Kannathanam (Direc-tor, Project Vision, Bangalore) inaugurated the session and went on to speak that India needed more socially committed students and youth to take up the challenge to help the blind, Film Director Jose Thomas conducted the website launch of the Bangalore-based project Vision.

Father Justin Kaliyaniyil, Director, Darsana Cultural Centre, Kottayam was felicitated on the occasion and Vice-Principal Varghese Joshua said that eye donation was the simplest and most gracious service that could be offered to society. A short promo launch was conducted by Mr Shibu George of Project Vision.
