Attack on poet Kureepuzha Sreekumar: Six arrested

The other arrested include Manu, Syam, Kiran, Vishnu, and Sujith, all Kottukkal natives.

Kollam: At least six RSS-BJP workers including a panchayat member Deepu were arrested for the attack on poet Kureepuzha Sreekumar in Kadakkal. The poet was detained by the workers who tried to manhandle him while returning from a public function at Kottukkal in Kadakkal on Monday night. The police, which acted swiftly based on an order by the Chief Minister’s office, registered a case against a total of 15 RSS-BJP workers for the attack. The other arrested include Manu, Syam, Kiran, Vishnu, and Sujith, all Kottukkal natives.

The poet was attacked by the extremists around 9 pm on Monday while he was returning after attending the anniversary function of Kairali library. The poet had a narrow escape as he managed to get into his car. The workers vandalised the car, hurling abusive words against the poet alleging that he had hurt Hindu religious sentiments. Meanwhile, the BJP district committee member S. Vijayan in a defensive mode filed a complaint against the poet alleging that he had made provocative comments about sangh parivar outfits and insulted Hindu gods in his speech.
