KPCC members to Dr G Parameshwar: Declare farm loan waiver

The source stated that the party membership drive also needs to be taken seriously in order to increase its footprints.

Bengaluru: In a strong bid to capitalise on the pitfalls of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's demonetisation policy, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee state office bearers on Monday unanimously demanded that Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president, Dr Parameshwar exert pressure on the state government to announce a complete farm loan waiver in the forthcoming budget in the state.

Feel good atmosphere
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle after the state office bearers' and District Congress Committee presidents' meeting here, a senior leader said, “We are on the verge of creating a feel good atmosphere ahead of the 2018 Assembly elections. Hence, we have pushed hard for announcement of farm loan waiver in order to encash on the failed demonetisation policy.”

The source added that though Dr Parameshwar did not give a firm assurance, he said that he would convene the state executive committee ahead of the budget session, wherein, the party can persuade Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah to announce a farm loan waiver.

Apart from this, Dr Parameshwar has directed party leaders to identify issues such as Mahadayi river dispute and Kappatgudda forest issue in order to win over large sections of people from the region or district concerned ahead of polls. “We cannot isolate ourselves from people's issues, instead we need to work hard to get local issues to drive our party poll campaign along with the anti-demonetisation drive,” the source added.

The source stated that the party membership drive also needs to be taken seriously in order to increase its footprints in around 70,000 polling stations.

“We need to increase our footprints ahead of polls, in order to achieve it, the party will have to carry out a massive membership drive soon,” the source claimed.
