Kapu community row: Wary YSRC men tread carefully
Kakinada: After the violent incidents of last Sunday that rocked the state and partially damaged its image, many YSRC leaders are trying to distance themselves from the Kapu community agitation for a spot on the BCs list, with none of the party MLAs having tried to meet Kapunadu leader Mudragada Padmanabham who has been on an indefinite fast for the past two days.
Some of the second rung leaders of the party who belong to the Kapu community did meet Mr Padmanabham.
YSRC district co-ordinator Thota Subbarao Naidu, who, sources say, belongs to Kirlampudi village, called on the fasting leader and offered his support.
YSRC leaders such as M. Mohan and others belonging to Konaseema, called on the Kapunadu leader and expressed their solidarity with his agitation, while state leaders like Ambati Rambabu and others confined themselves to putting out statements, supporting Mr Padmanabham's fast and opposing Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
The violence at Tuni has been a cause for concern among the YSRC MLAs who did not want such extreme incidents to occur and it is learnt that they want to maintain a distance from Mr Padmanabham’s indefinite hunger strike where a massive police bandobust has been arranged.
Many YSRC leaders are annoyed and saddened by that the incident went out of hand. “We didn’t want to attend the meeting. But we had to — amidst pressure from our community leaders,” said a YSRC MLA.
