Back at work, KTR says 2BHK is now a priority

Our goal is to make Hyderabad a slum-free city, says IT minister KTR.

Hyderabad: A day after his party’s impressive victory in the GHMC polls, PR minister K.T. Rama Rao, who is set to get the additional portfolio of Municipal Administration soon, visited Hammal Basti in Padma Rao Nagar where 800-odd families reside.

“Our goal is to make Hyderabad a slum-free city. The CM has asked us not to relax after our big victory but to visit all areas in city, especially slums where the 2BHK houses scheme will be taken up,” Mr Rao said.

He interacted with the residents of Hammal Basti and assured them that construction of the 2BHK houses would be completed within six months if they come together and shift to another place.

“The CM has given word to voters that he would construct one lakh houses and we will do it,” Mr Rao said.

The PR minister plans to visit various divisions in the GHMC limits, especially the slums, and identify sites for construction of the 2BHK houses, which proved to be the crucial element in the TRS’ thumping victory in the GHMC elections. His visit will also be a thanksgiving exercise.

Earlier, TRS campaign managers and party leaders had informed the CM that a majority of the poor voters in all the municipal divisions had sought the 2BHK houses, drinking water, proper drainage system, roads etc.

Meanwhile, several TRS corporators called on Mr Rao at his Banjara Hills office and complimented him on the party’s unprecedented majority in the GHMC.

KTR nips talk of ‘CM heir’ in bud
Minister K.T. Rama Rao on Saturday made it clear that there was no need for a debate on the political heir of his father K. Chandrasekhar Rao as he would continue as Chief Minister and party chief for at least 20 more years.

Earlier in the day, K. Kavitha, Nizamabad MP and daughter of the Chief Minister, said Mr Rama Rao, her brother, had proven himself as a leader during the GHMC polls. “People have accepted KTR’s leadership. There is no doubt he is the political heir of KCR,” Ms Kavitha said.

However, when newsmen drew his attention to the remarks of his sister, Mr Rama Rao said that such statements were not needed now.

“I am very happy with the duties assigned to me by the Chief Minister. KCR will continue as CM as well as party chief for at least 20 more years. When he is there, why should the media rake up such issues?”
