A K Antony breaks silence, gives Oomen Chandy clean chit
KOCHI: Senior congress leader A.K. Antony has finally rallied behind Chief Minister Oommen Chandy by stating that he would not like to trust the allegations leveled by a person accused in several criminal cases.
Speaking to reporters in Kochi on Saturday, the Congress Working Committee member chided the Opposition for demanding the resignation of the government and obstructing public functions of Mr Chandy.
"The Opposition should have the tolerance to wait for the report of the (Solar) commission. It is a basic democratic propriety as the commission was set up on the demand of the opposition," he said.
The Congress leader also insisted that all matters connected with the allegations can be discussed in the Assembly. "The Opposition has every opportunity to raise these matters in the Assembly and they should show the patience to listen to the reply from the government," he added.
Describing the five-year rule of Mr Chandy as the best in terms of economic development of the state, Mr. Antony said that the UDF is poised to come back in to power.
"People are watching everything and I am sure that they would make judgment after comparative assessment of the achievements of the government and the Opposition. In such a situation, the UDF will be given a chance by the people," he said.
Mr Antony, who evaded all pointed questions against the Chandy regime by taking refuge in the submission of the report by the commission, however said that the BJP will be politically irrelevance for the forthcoming assembly elections in the state.
"The contest is between UDF and LDF. BJP is not anywhere near winning elections in the state. They are struggling to open an account in the state", he said.
