Telangana assembly must pass bill rejecting NRC, NPR – Activists

Speaking at a round table conference on Monday, they sought to know why the state government has not yet taken a clear position on the matter.

HYDERABAD: Demanding that the Telangana Legislative Assembly pass a bill rejecting NRC and NPR, women’s organisations and activists wanted CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao to come out with a clear stand on the issue.

Speaking at a round table conference on Monday, they sought to know why the state government has not yet taken a clear position on the matter.

All India Muslim Personal Law Board Member Asma Zohra said, “TRS government has come to power with our votes. It must ensure that this unconstitutional law of NRC is not implemented in the state. She pointed out that there is already a lot of anxiety on documents to be produced by people to prove their citizenship of India. “People have started looking for documents and those who do not have them have consulted lawyers. There are people who have documents but there are mistakes in them. Thus they are also worried. As a result, agents and brokers are having a field day,” Asma Zohra remarked.

Social activist Rafia Nausheen pointed out: “Experience in Assam has shown that even clerical errors in documents will invalidate applications. Whatever we say, they are not going to listen to us. The best is to refrain from submitting any documents,” she maintained.
