Kiran Bedi pushes for new police training policy
Puducherry: Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi has emphasised the development of a police training policy after interacting with Station House Officers of all 29 stations at Raj Nivas on Sunday.
Ms Bedi in a message said that to reignite self learning and learning on the job, an in-house test was conducted for all 29 station house police officers.
“Besides the question paper administered they were all asked about their past trainings and new learning experiences that they wanted the department to give them. Based on their declared needs, a police training policy is being put in place forthwith by Police Headquarters,” she said.
The Lt Governor said the analysis indicates the need for more training in investigation skills, cyber crime, forensics, community policing, specific laws and personal skills.
Since resources are deficient with the Puducherry Police, a lot of effort will be needed to collaborate closely with the Tamil Nadu Police for maximum support taking advantage of the proximity, same language and common culture.
The test administered revealed that 26 personnel out of 29 secured an A grade. The officers will all get an appreciation letter from the LG's office. The toppers of the test were K. Priya of Thirubhuvanai and J Babuji of Mudaliarpet.
