Hyderabad: Encroachment at Osmania General Hospital, junior doctors complain

Between January 4 and 5, sewage lines at the Old OGH building were found overflowing and the reason could not be understood.

Hyderabad: Junior doctors of Osmania General Hospital have complained to Afzal Gunj police station and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on Sunday morning after squatters built a house next to the hospital’s compound wall at night and even drew illegal sewage connections.

OGH superintendent Dr Nagendra said “The criminals built a home next to our compound wall and there is no setback area. The encroachment is from the Dhobi Ghat side and it has been brought to the notice of the office only now.”

Junior doctors had been complaining about illegal construction activity near the OGH hostel premises, but senior residents took no action, they allege. A case was finally registered with the police station on Sunday morning.

Between January 4 and 5, sewage lines at the Old OGH building were found overflowing and the reason could not be understood. Inspection by the building department revealed that the hospital’s sewage lines were having an additional load from nearby hotels and shops. Drainage from six shops and two hotels were found connected to the old OGH building and that is leading to overflowing of drains on the hospital premises. The administration said they will take up the issue with GHMC and the drainage lines have been disconnected.
