Hyderabad: 67 schoolgirls hit by food poisoning
Hyderabad: Sixty-seven schoolgirls from Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) were hospitalised with suspected food poisoning in Chevella, Ranga Reddy district on Sunday morning. There are around 206 girls residing in the residential school.
The girls were brought to the government hospital after complaining of stomach ache. KGBV is a government-run residential school.
Inspector Guruvaiah of the Chevella police said that fruit salad was served in the school in the evening around 4 pm on Saturday and later rice with capsicum curry, dal and curd, at around 8 pm. After study hours, the girls went to bed.
“On Sunday morning around 67 girls fell sick and started vomiting and were shifted to Government Hospital. Thirty girls were treated and sent back to the school after their condition became normal. Another 37 girls were referred to Niloufer Hospital. Their condition is stable now,” the inspector said.
The Chevella police have registered a case under section 337 IPC (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) against the principal and cooks of the school based on complaints from parents, and further investigation is underway.
