VACB to probe minister's bills

A team headed by Vigilance Special Unit SP K.E. Baiju will conduct the preliminary probe into the entire matter.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau on Saturday initiated preliminary probe into the medical reimbursement worth Rs 3.8 lakh claimed by health minister K.K. Shylaja.

The probe was ordered into the complaints lodged with the VACB about alleged irregularities in availing medical reimbursement. The minister allegedly claimed reimbursement for the medical bills of her husband who is municipal chairman and a retired teacher.

A team headed by Vigilance Special Unit SP K.E. Baiju will conduct the preliminary probe into the entire matter.

The VACB has approached the chief secretary demanding files related to reimbursement bills. The vigilance team will probe whether there was any violation of The Members of Kerala Legislative Assembly (Medical Facilities) Rules, 1994 with regard to claim reimbursement of cost of treatment/medical attendance by members. The complaint has pointed out that a person occupying the post of municipal chairman and someone who retired as a teacher and drawing pension, could not be considered as his wife’s dependant.
