Guntur: Women to be given priority in housing

Officials try to acquire 200 acres to construct 20K houses.

GUNTUR: Houses will be provided to all the needy women in Guntur, according to Guntur West MLA M. Venugopala Reddy. He said that there was a huge response to Housing for All scheme and that they had received 47,000 applications in the city. He said that the government will give preference to women in allotment of houses. At present, 10,000 houses have been sanctioned to Guntur city, he said.

The GMC conducted Janmabhoomi meetings in Swarnabharati Nagar and Gorantla in the city on Saturday. Addressing the meetings, Mr Venugopala Reddy said that 10,000 houses were sanctioned and construction of 6,000 houses has already begun. He said that the officials were trying to get 200 acres to construct 20,000 houses for the poor, mainly women, in Guntur city.

Guntur ZP chairperson Sk Johny Moon listed out various welfare schemes being implemented by the TD government. The ZP chairperson said the government is implementing Dulhan scheme for Muslims and that a similar scheme would be implemented for the BC and SC communities soon. GMC commissioner Ch. Anuradha said all the applications received during Janmabhoomi will be computerised and will be resolved accordingly. Former minister and MLA R. Kishore Babu praised Janmabhoomi programme as it is useful to resolve people’s problems and address their grievances. Janmabhoomi meetings were held in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Yadava Bazaar and other areas of the city.
