Even in death, Deepak Rao is the family's saviour
MANGALURU: The cup of compassion brimmeth over for Deepak Rao's kin with friends-known and unknown-chipping in Rs 33 lakhs in three days to help the slain youth's mother, Premalatha Rao, pay off debts and take care of the victim's differentlyabled brother and herself.
Scores paid into a bank account held by Deepak Rao's mother-from Rs 50 to Rs 1000- soon after a message was broadcast along with the number of her bank account.
"The family is moved by such generosity of people. Deepak was the sole breadwinner of the family. His brother is differently abled, and his mother is aged. This money will help the family. We thank everybody. The family's loan will be paid off first, and the rest will be used for future expenses, Deepak's cousin Vinod told DC.
The family, however, turned away local Congress legislator Mohiuddin Bava when he offered a cheque of Rs five lakhs to the victim's mother on Friday. The kin complained about the 'secret operation' through which the victim's body was brought from the hospital to his residence. The legislator told the family that he did not attend the funeral at the behest of local police officers.
