Hyderabad: A 24-year-old man was arrested by Jawahar-nagar police for allegedly harassing a woman by sending abusive messages over the mobile phone and on social media.
Police said the victim and the accused Jeevan Sharma belonged to Ramagundam. She met Jeevan while she was doing post-graduation in Ramagundam. After studies she got a job in an international bank and came to Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, Jeevan who was running a small business in Ramagundam, started harassing her in the name of marriage, and started sending abusive messages. He intensified harassment after she approached the police in April 2016. When the victim filed a complaint in September, police arrested Jeevan. They also opened a suspect sheet against him. After coming out on bail he continued to harass the woman on the phone and also on Facebook.
Police registered a case under the IT Act and arrested Jeevan from his house in Ramagundam. He was remanded to custody.
Police said they are planning to propose to detain Jeevan under the PD Act.
