Two teenage girls commit suicide over love affair

A case has been registered and police are searching for Kannan who absconded on hearing about Jeeva's suicide.

Chennai: Unable to manage relationship pressure and failure, two girls from Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu have killed themselves in the past two days. Cases have been filed in the district police stations and investigations are on.

According to police, D. Jeeva (21) a resident of Kalakattur, was allegedly in love with Kannan (22) working as a technician in an IT company at Oragadam. A month ago Jeeva's parents got to know about their daughter's affair with Kannan. They were against it since the boy is from a lower caste. They advised their daughter against the relationship and Jeeva had stopped meeting or talking with Kannan, said sources.

All efforts of Kannan to contact Jeeva for the past one month went in vain and he finally resorted to blackmailing her. On Tuesday morning, Kannan uploaded their intimate photos in three different WhatsApp groups of which both Kannan and Jeeva are participants. Jeeva allegedly locked her room and committed suicide on Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, Damodaran lodged a complaint with Magaral police station. A case has been registered and police are searching for Kannan who absconded on hearing about Jeeva's suicide.

A similar case of suicide was registered with Chengalpattu taluk police station on Tuesday evening. Police said Monisha (18), a resident of Paiyanoor on OMR, was a second-year student in a nursing college at Chengalpattu. According to sources, she allegedly committed suicide by drowning herself in Kolavai lake. She was allegedly in love with a man and was often seen roaming around with him on his bike near her college. On Sunday, her parents confronted Monisha about her affair and advised her to break up with her boyfriend. An upset Monisha went to bed and went to college the next day at 7.30 am in the morning as usual. On Monday, Monisha who usually returns by 5 pm every day did not reach home on time. Her parents called the college, which in turn informed them of Monisha's absence the whole day, said sources.

A missing case was registered with Kelambakkam police. Meanwhile, Chengalpattu taluk police recovered the body of Monisha from Kolavai lake on Tuesday evening and alerted her family. They police registered a case and further investigations are on. They are also searching for Monisha's boyfriend for investigation. Police are waiting for the post-mortem report to take the case further.
