Hyderabad: The Telangana government’s ambitious double-bedroom housing scheme is facing issues even before its take-off in Old Marredpally. Though seventy per cent of families have vacated their houses allowing the authorities to take up demolition work, the remaining 30 per cent of the families are not showing keenness to part with their land and houses.
Mr K. Rajagopal, an employee of a private company, residing in the BJP ‘basti’ where demolitions have started, stated that some of the land owners have gone to the court because they are unhappy with the house allotment offers made by the authorities.
“Siblings and their families are being told to accommodate themselves in a single house instead of giving them two houses. If the government wants us to part with our land, they should be considerate enough and fulfill our needs,” he said.
Nearly 400 families stay in this basti and majority of them have shifted to places like Neredmet, Tukaramgate, Malkajgiri, Bowenpally etc. to pave way for the demolitions. “We were told to stay in rented houses and take care of related expenses for the next ten months or so. Families would have been happier if they could complete the project within a year”, another local said.
Mr G. Sanjay, whose family hadn’t moved out stated that while some joint families are being given multiple allotments, others have not been extended the facility and hence the discontent.
While authorities were able to make some headway in BJP basti, the situation is quite grim in Vivekanandanagar and Rajivnagar society, where they have not been able to make a single dent.
Meanwhile, RDO Ms. K. Chandrakala visited the place and spoke to families that did not vacate the area. She tried to note down their grievances and suggested ways to end the dilemma. While some were content, others put forth their views strongly to her.
Meanwhile, MLA Mr. G.Sayanna said that they would try to get on board all families in Old Marredpally for housing scheme. He said that the 2BHK colony would have improved amenities including widened roads, drainage and potable water supply.

Secunderabad Canton-ment officials on Tuesday demolished pent house of an under construction building in Syndicate Bank colo-ny of West Marred-pally.
According to engineering wing, the owner took permission for a G+2 construction, but was trying to build a pent house violating rules. It was found that the FSI (floor space index) was exceeded beyond that is allowed for a house built in 400 sq. yards of land.
