Guntur: Brain-dead man's organs donated

The family of a farmer, who was declared brain-dead, donated his organs giving new lease of life to five patients.

GUNTUR: The family of a farmer, who was declared brain-dead, donated his organs giving new lease of life to five patients in various hospitals. Addressing mediapersons in Guntur on Tuesday, City Hospital neurologist and managing director Dr Ch. Sivaramakrishna, neuro surgeon Dr Ch . Lakshmana Rao, nephrologist Dr M. Srinivas Reddy and radiologist Dr Sujatha explained about organ donation.

Dr Sivaramakrishna said that the farmer of Yetukuru in Guntur city, Nissankarrao Bhanu Chaitanya, went to Nellore with his friend on Dec. 3 on a bike.
They were returning to Guntur after completing their work when they met with an accident on Vijayawada-Chennai NH-16 at Naidupeta on the outskirts of Guntur on Sunday night.

Chaitanya’s friend escaped unhurt but Chaitanya suffered multiple head and body injuries and was admitted in the GGH. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to City Hospital where the doctors declared he was brain dead. Dr Sivaramakrishna said that the Jeevandan counsellors contacted his family members and explained about organ donation. Chaitanya’s wife, Nagajyothy, and other family members agreed to donate his organs. His heart was donated to Fortis Hospital in Chennai, lungs to Global Hospital in Vijayawada, eyes to Agarwal Eye Hospital in Guntur, one kidney to Arun Kidney Centre in Vijayawada and another to City Hospital in Guntur. People appreciated the family of Chaitanya for donating the organs.
