Court issues NBW against Vijayakanth
Chennai: A city court in Chennai on Tuesday ordered NBW against DMDK leader Vijayakanth for failure to appear before the court in connection with a case filed against him four years ago. Vijayakanth left for Singapore a few days ago for an annual health check-up.
In 2012, on a complaint from a reporter of a Tamil television channel, the airport police registered a case against him and the then MLA Murugan for attempting to hit a reporter in airport during a press briefing.
The judicial magistrate court, Alandur, conducted the trial relating to the case. Meanwhile, the court granted bail to Vijaykanth and former MLA based on direction from the Madras high court.
The proceeding commenced last month before the JM, N. Sultan Aribeen. When the matter came up for hearing before the JM, the MLA appeared before the court on November 16. However, Vijayakanth had not appeared before the court.
The court directed Vijayakanth to appear before the court on December 5. When the matter came up for hearing before the court, counsels appearing for Vijayakanth informed the JM that the leader had gone to Singapore for a medical checkup.
Refusing to accept the submission, the JM slapped non-bailable warrant on Vijayakanth and adjourned the matter to February 13.
