Collegium clears 9 lawyers for elevation as Madras HC judges
New Delhi: The Supreme Court collegium of Judges headed by the Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra has cleared nine of the 11 lawyers recommended by the Madras high court for elevation as Judges of the Madras High Court. Two were found not suitable.
The 11 lawyers chosen for elevation are Subramanium Prasad (Additional Advocate General for Tamil Nadu in Supreme Court), Ms Asha, Senthil Kumar, Ilavazhagan, Emiliyas, Pugazhendi, Saravanan, Anand Venkatesh, Nirmal Kumar, Ramaswamy and Radhakrishnan.
The identity of the two lawyers whose names were not cleared for elevation is not yet known.
This is the third batch of candidates forwarded by the Madras High Court collegium during the tenure of Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul prior to his elevation as a judge of Supreme Court.
The nine cleared names are now being sent to the Union Law Ministry for processing their appointments, which is expected to materialise in three to four weeks, reliable sources said.
