Vizag: Depression may turn into cyclone

As per the IMD's weather bulletin, the system would become a deep depression in the next 48 hours.

Visakhapatnam: In all likelihood, the well-marked low pressure area over the south Andaman sea and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal would gather strength to become a cyclone as it traverses close to the coast. As per the IMD’s weather bulletin, the system would become a deep depression in the next 48 hours.

According to the Met department, the system has been moving at a slow pace than initially expected and it is likely to hit the South India coast, making landfall somewhere in Tamil Nadu or south coastal Andhra Pradesh after intensifying into a cyclone. Retired meteorologist, Rallapalli Murali Krishna, infor-med that it is very early to predict its projected path.

“If the system would intensify into a deep depression by the time it reaches the coast, it would likely hit south coastal Andhra Pradesh. Otherwise, it may head towards Tamil Nadu. We cannot even deny it is moving towards another direction instead of approaching the Indian coast. Many things can happen before it reaches the coast,” Mr Murali Krishna added.

On Monday, rain occurred at a few places over Rayalaseema and isolated places of coastal Andhra Pradesh. Tirupati received about 7 cm rainfall, followed by Pullampeta 5 cm, Nagari 3 cm, Thottambedu 3 cm, Tirumala 3 cm, Chittoor 2 cm, Srikalahasti 2 cm, Satyavedu 2 cm and Kavali 2 cm.
