Kakinada: Owing to shortage of swiping machines, the officials have decided to promote 'mobile apps' for cashless transactions to reduce the cash burden in East Godavari. Though the traders have come forward in large numbers for installing swiping machines for their business transactions, the bankers are unable to supply the machines immediately. The traders as well as consumers are also facing difficulties for their transactions.
“There is huge shortage of swiping machines. The officials should create awareness on 'Mobile Apps' among the people,” said district collector H. Arunkumar. According to officials, there are a large number of smart phones among people and the administration wants to make use the facility by promoting the mobile apps for making payments such as electricity bills, phone bills, property taxes and others.
Already the officials have been creating awareness on making use of debit or RuPay cards among the people in medical shops, kirana shops and others through E-PoS and swiping machines. But, now the officials will give training to the people on mobile apps. Meanwhile, the administration has identified that nearly 12,000 pensioners do not have any bank accounts till now. The collector instructed the officials to open bank accounts for them immediately and provide debit or rupay cards to them through banks.
He suggested the DRDA officials to exhibit the functioning of E-PoS machines and give training to the students. He directed all the hospitals and clinics to arrange E-PoS machines and encourage cashless transactions. He said that the industries and labour welfare departments should focus on encouraging industrialists to pay salaries to the workers through pre-paid cards.
