Don't give Cabinet status to all: A Revanth Reddy
Hyderabad: Telugu Desam working president A. Revanth Reddy on Monday lodged a complaint with Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, against granting of Cabinet Status to people in excess of the number allowed under the Constitution.
According to Article 164 (1A) of the Constitution, the Cabinet strength shall not be more than 15 per cent of the strength of Assembly. As per this provision, Telangana can have only 18 Cabinet ministers.
Mr Reddy said the TRS government of late has accorded Cabinet Minister Status to several advisors, corporation chairmen and to special government representatives violating the rules.
He observed the Chief Minister K. Chand-rashekhar Rao had recently appointed some more advisors with Cabinet Status. He demanded all those appointments must be scrapped immediately to protect the Constitution.
The TD leader also recalled that the High Court had struck down their appointment of Parliamentary Secretaries who had Cabinet Minister Status, based on his complaint.
