APSRTC cuts down on bus links to Tamil Nadu
Nellore/Vijayawada/Tirupati: The AP State Road Transport Corporation, which operates 176 services daily from across Tamil Nadu, is keeping a close eye on the situation in Tamil Nadu where Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa is seriously ill.
RTC MD M. Malakondaiah has directed the traffic wing in Chennai to keep a track of the situation while operating night services from Chennai and, if necessary, take the assistance of the police should there be outbreaks of violence.
Mr Malakondaiah told Deccan Chronicle that every precautionary measure has been taken to protect the properties and assets of RTC. All bus stations and traffic wings of RTC’s regional offices have been asked to decide on running night services to Chennai depending on the situation.
Meanwhile, APSRTC has curtailed its services to the neighbouring state from Chittoor and Tirupati. Buses from Chittoor to Chennai plied up to Vellore, 32 km from Chennai, on Monday. If necessary, services to Chennai will be stopped.
