Hyderabad: In case of a fire while bursting crackers, the Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services asks people to stop, drop and roll to extinguish the fire, said officials.
“Keep a first aid kit and eye drops along with blankets and water while bursting crackers. If your clothes catch fire, extinguish it by wrapping yourself in a blanket or sprinkle water and roll on it,” say fire officials.
“In case of a smoke or fire, the public is appealed to inform the fire department by making a phone call on ‘101’ or ‘9949991101’. The employees of disaster response and fire department would be available to attend to emergencies on Diwali,” said Director General of SDR and FS, M. Gopi Krishna.
Speaking to the media, the DG said “Purchase firecrackers from licensed traders. There are 4,258 licensed traders in the state among which 946 are in Hyderabad and 1,436 are in Rangareddy districts. There are Supreme Court guidelines in place to burst crackers and the public has to adhere to these guidelines.”
He said that in the last two years, there have been no major incidents during Diwali celebrations due to heightened awereness among the public in following the fire safety precautions.
