Telangana: Lack of testing tools at CGG resulted in errors
Hyderabad: The state tops the Ease of Doing Business rankings but lack of testing tool techniques and command on the software development life cycle (SDLC) at the Centre for Good Governance (CGG) is leading to errors in applications developed by it.
The major cause behind the withdrawal of Group-I results by the TS Public Service Commission (TSPSC) recently was due to lack of testing techniques with the CGG. The TSPSC has alleged that the CGG has not fixed the mismatches in the user interface of the application developed by its engineers.
A source at the CGG said that improper testing tools and revision of required fields in the application led to the errors, resulting in the recall of results. As per norms, a software company which develops apps for clients should hold certain tests before delivering it. The source said the major test for front-end tools is the User Interface (UI), followed by fields matching and mismatching due to problems with the database and coding, security tests on the vulnerability to hacking and finding loopholes.
As the CGG does not have staff with the expertise to check glitches in apps, it has outsourced the job to staff from IIT and other institutions on part-time basis. “Due to the urgency in delivering the product, the CGG failed to hold the required tests for the TSPSC app,” the source said. Mr Naveen Chintala, a techie who works on testing tools, said that the software company is the responsible for defects in the application and the client for not testing it before its launch.
“If private companies commit such errors, the clients can take legal recourse and seek huge compensation. In countries like the US and the UK, developers would lose all their assets to paying compensations and face loss of credibility as well,” he said. Another source from the CGG said that the centre had delivered the application in a special format on September 10 after experts from IIT had conducted all tests.
