Mobile app to digitise documents of vehicles in Andhra Pradesh

Vehicle documents like driving licence, registration certificate, etc.

Visakhapatnam: Motorists in Andhra Pradesh will soon be free of the burden to carry vehicle documents with them while travelling.

Vehicle documents like driving licence, registration certificate, etc. can soon be turned into digital documents on the mobile phones as the AP transport department is chalking out plans to launch a mobile phone app to help motorists for the purpose.

AP transport minister Sidda Raghava Rao said the transport department had made nearly 80 services online and that AP was ahead of other states in the country in use of technology in governance.

“We will be launching a mobile phone app to get vehicle documents’ copies in digital format and the app can be easily downloaded by the motorists in their phones. The digital documents can be produced whenever the authorities ask for them,” he added.

The Telangana transport department has launched mobile phone app titled “RTA M Wallet” a few months ago and a majority of the motorists in the neighbouring state have downloaded it and got their driving licences and registration certificates in digital format.

AP transport commissioner N. Balasubrah-manyam said they were creating the software and integrating it with the existing IT system in the state, besides training the staff in various aspects to completely upgrade the software system.

The road transport authority officials in the state will track the offences of the drivers under the MV Act, based on the driving licence put in public domain, he added.
