Unveiling of S.R. Sankaran's statue in Bapatla tomorrow

Vijayawada: A statue of late S.R. Sankaran, senior IAS officer who devoted his life for welfare of scheduled castes and tribes, will be unveiled in Bapatla on Saturday.

Sankaran came to be known as an ideal people’s officer who played a proactive role in formulating pro-poor policies. A personification of simple living, honesty and integrity; unassuming but strong, modest yet firm and affable, the diminutive civil servant showed what an IAS officer could do for marginalised sections of the society.

The statue is being set up by the Forum for Better Bapatla.

Bapatla collector P. Ranjit Basha, along with forum’s secretary P.C. Sai Babu, released pamphlets on S.R. Sankaran and setting up of his statue in Bapatla. AP Human Resource Development Institute founder director general D. Chakrapani will be the chief guest at the statue unveiling ceremony.

Collector Sai Babu recalled that Sankaran had humbly rejected Government of India’s proposal to award him Padmabhushan. He hoped his statue will inspire students to become public servants dedicated to improving the life of people.
