Telangana: Ramakrishna Puram lake work stalled despite funding

According to the GHMC, the RK Puram lake got its budget under the 20 lakes category, which received around Rs 300 crore overall.

Hyderabad: The Ramakrishna Puram (RK Puram) lake was sanctioned Rs 12.75 crore for restoration and beautification in July but no work has started in it so far.

Mr Vijay Dabade, a resident of Balaji Colony in Ramakrishna Puram, said the lake was stinking, and mosquitoes breeding in the water. “Many colonies are letting their sewage into the lake. It has become vulnerable to encroachments as well,” Mr Dabade said.

According to the GHMC, the RK Puram lake got its budget under the 20 lakes category, which received around Rs 300 crore overall.

Superintending engineer, lakes, Y. Shekar Reddy, said tenders were finalised recently. “The work has been delayed due to elections,” he said, He attributed the plight of the lake to the sewage being let into it. He said the GHMC would divert the sewage lines from the lake.
