Visakhapatnam: Excise officials destroy ganja crops

The excise officials managed to destroy around 90,000 ganja plants in 18 acres at Sariyapalle

Visakhapatnam: Tense situation prevailed at Sariyapalle area under Paderu mandal in Vizag Agency on Thursday when a special team comprising excise, police and other departments destroyed ganja crop near the village.

About 40 excise and 20 police personnel faced stiff resistance from women of the village, as they tried to destroy the ganja plants by burning the crop. Seeing the men-in-khaki descending on their village, the locals hurled stones on the enforcement officials and they also damaged the glasses of the department’s vehicles.

Assistant Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise (Enforcement) S.V.V.N. Babji Rao said that they had convinced the locals about the ill-effects of growing the crop, for over some time and only then they relented.

The excise officials managed to destroy around 90,000 ganja plants in 18 acres at Sariyapalle and also destroyed around 90,000 ganja plants in 18 acres at Yeguva Solamulu village of Paderu mandal.
