Protest at Trimulgherry revenue office over alleged bribery' death
Hyderabad: Locals held a protest at the Trimulgherry revenue office seeking action against alleged corruption which they claimed caused the death of a man.
The protestors said that one Krishna who owned 450 square yards of land had been visiting government offices seeking regularisation. They said the collector had issued orders in his favour but the staff at the tahsildar’s office had demanded bribes. They added that Krishna was harassed by the staff at the revenue office to such an extent that he suffered a cardiac arrest, leading to his death.
Locals held a protest with Krishna’s body, seeking justice for his family. Secunderabad revenue divisional officer K. Chandrakala said the land that Krishna was claiming was government land. “For the past two years, he had been holding protests during the visits of higher officials. He held a protest at Indira Park and tried to immolate himself at the Hyderabad collectorate. Then collector Rahul Bojja issued orders in his favour on humanitarian grounds. He wrote about his case to the Chief Commi-ssioner of land administration. Krishna died before he could officially receive the land,” she said.
She added that as per official investigations, Krishna had died of natural causes. Alleged harassment by the staff of the revenue office had not caused cardiac arrest, he said. “If the allegations prove to be true, we take stringent action against the errant officials and staff,” she said. Authorities have launched a probe into the matter.
